Simpson House Patient Participation Group was founded more than a decade ago, in April 2014. It grew out of the virtual Patient Reference Group formed in 2011. The PPG meets around 4 times per year.
New members are always welcome, the only criteria being that you must be a patient at the Surgery.
The primary function of a Patient Participation Group (PPG) is to provide a platform for patients to actively participate in healthcare decision-making, offering feedback and suggestions to improve services and ensuring patient needs are met. Essentially, PPGs act as a voice for patients, influencing healthcare practices and promoting a more patient-centered approach.
They facilitate open communication between patients and the practice staff, fostering trust and shared understanding.
By collecting feedback and suggesting improvements, PPGs contribute to a more efficient and effective healthcare system. PPGs provide a venue for patients and healthcare professionals to discuss and make decisions together, ensuring services are aligned with patient needs and priorities.
They offer practical support, help patients take more responsibility for their own health, and provide strategic input and advice. They can also help monitor changes in services and evaluate the effectiveness of new initiatives.
As part of its ongoing moderisation plans, the NHS has been moving more and more of its systems on-line, providing patients with greater access to health data and the ability to make GP appointments and requests without the issues associated with traditional methods such as the early morning telephone battle to make an appointment.
Whilst this has improved access for many people, there are some for whom the world of digital on-line services is still a challenge rather than an opportunity.
In an effort to encourage more people to use these services, the Practice is making a series of Digital Health Access promotions at the surgery to encourage patients to use their mobile devices and computers to engage with and use on-line health services.
This website, and the guides it contains, has been provided by the PPG to support that effort.
